KIDS KANDAHAR RESULTS - 1/8/2012
Our young Team Shred Mitey Mites had an excellent showing at the first Mitey Mite Council race of the season. The giant slalom race was held on Mt. Hood Lane at Ski Bowl this past Sunday (1/8). We had 17 athletes participating in the three age classes. 41% of our athletes were on the podium at the completion of the race! This is an outstanding way for CWSC Shredders to start the season.
We had three girls on the podium in the J6 category. Bella Foos stood on top in 1st place beating the field by nearly two full seconds. Noga Tal and Ella Tollefson earned 4th and 10th place medals for their respective finishes.
Jonny Walker had an amazing run in the J6 boys category and was awarded the 9th place medal
Clara Macedo had an outstanding day finishing in 2nd in the J5 girls category and turned in the third fastest time of the day overall! Lexi Foos placed 3rd in the J4 category with two outstanding runs.
Grant Law charged the mountain and surprised the field with his blistering runs to finish 6th overall and less than two seconds off the winner on the day. Grant had an amazing recovery on the final pitch to secure his placing.
Other highlights were little Erica Burguiere (5YO) completed her first race like a champ with only a minor hick-up at the delay gate on course. Henry Johnson nearly made the podium finishing in 15th place. Ian Morris and Markus Falconer each made the top 25 in thier first race in the J6 category. Sophia Dodd and Laural Finlay both had successful first races finishing 19th and 24th respectively. Jack Johnson finished 17th in the J5 boys category with two solid runs. Brady Layman and Guy Tal both finished in the top 25.
Congratulations to all. Parents be proud, the hard work is paying off!
First Day of Dryland Goes Well ~09/12/11
Today marked the first day of dryland for the upcoming 2011-2012 ski season. This year's training is taking place at CrossFit Excellence in Lake Oswego under the instruction of new CWSC Head Strength and Conditioning coach, Cody Limbaugh. Cody coached the basic fundamentals of two Olympic lifts and other gymnastic excercises that the team will be perfoming in their workouts.
We finished the day with a Tabata which is an intensive, interval training method. Athletes got a taste of what CrossFit is all about. Workouts will get progressively more intense and athletes will become stronger than they've ever been.
Make sure to check out the video on the strength and conditioning page to find out exactly what CrossFit is all about. Parents interested in participating can inquire about joining in for a reduced monthly fee.

Tobias Macedo to Represent Brazil at First Every Youth Olympics Games
CWSC athlete Tobias Macedo left Monday for Innsbruck, Austria to compete in the first ever Youth Olympic Winter Games. The event, created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was created to inspire young people to play sports and adopt and live by the Olympic Values. Today, 100 years since their creation, the three Olympic Values of Excellence, Respect and Friendship have retained their relevance.
Tobias will be competing in the Men's Slalom on January 19th and the Giant Slalom on January 21st. During the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games 2012, Patscherkofel will be the site for all alpine skiing competitions. Patscherkofel was the site of the 1976 Olympic Downhill where Austrian Franz Klammer became a household name after finishing one of the most wild DH runs in Olympic history capturing the Gold Medal.
By nature of this extraordinary invitation to compete and represent his home country of Brazil and CWSC , Tobias has elevated his skiing performance to match the level of competition at the YOG. He has displayed tenacity and discipline in his pre-Olympic training and has great confidence coming into this event.
We will be maintaining communication with Tobias and updating the Club via email of his progress over the next week. You can visit the Youth Olympic website here: www.innsbruck2012.com .

Shred Prep CLICK HERE TO REGISTER
Our entry to racing program is designed for younger skiers looking to improve their all-mountain experience and explore racing. It will provide the foundation for the necessary skiing skills and fundamentals to advance in to our Shred Mitey Mite program. Coaches will stress the importance of having fun while learning mountain safety, new ski skills and basic racing fundamentals through skiing, play, games and mountain exploration. Athletes will spend most of their on-snow time in directed free skiing with their coach. Racing skills will be introduced as the season progresses and athletes will have an opportunity to participate in our season ending Mt. Hood Mitey Mite Council race.
Participants must be able to put on their own ski equipment, load and ride the lift alone and ski at an intermediate level (parallel skiing/no wedging).
